New Service-Learning Toolkit
Posted by on December 13, 2002
Service-learning has been widely acclaimed as an effective strategy to increase civic participation, academic achievement and positive relationships among young people. Now, a new publication from the Compact for Learning and Citizenship (CLC) and the Education Commission of the States (ECS), the Service-Learning and Standards Toolkit, shows how it also can be an effective means to achieve academic standards.
The Toolkit not only features numerous examples of service-learning curriculum and assessments tied to standards, but draws upon the experiences of service-learning advocates at the state, district and school level in exploring practical issues such as policy, professional development and administrative support. This publication is a tremendous resource for practitioners, coordinators, administrators and policymakers who want to learn how service-learning can be used to obtain academic standards. $25.00 plus $4.25 shipping and handling.
To order, see the CLC Web site (http://www.ecs.org/clc) or contact the ECS Distribution Center at 303-299-3692. (Ask for Item # SL-01-04)
