New Reports on the EITC history and impact

Steve Holt has authored a new research brief for us reviewing what we know about the EITC from its first 30 years (it was created in 1975). The report provides an accessible literature review that we hope many of you will find useful as you describe the importance of the EITC for families and communities.

There is also a new brief out analyzing important tax trends among low-income families from tax years 2000 to 2003. Most notable were widespread, though variable, increases in receipt of the EITC during this period–coinciding with the downturn in the economy–and a significant uptick in EITC recipients’ usage of paid preparers. The report also looks at the extent to which EITC recipients make use of the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit in different cities.
