REPORT: Philadelphia Courts among “best in country”
New Report Shines Light on Philadelphia Courts, Exposes Myths
A new report shows that Philadelphia courts are among the best in the country.
The new report is one of a kind and the first to combine all of the most recent data available measuring the effectiveness and fairness of Philadelphia’s courts, including the most recent comprehensive data provided by nonpartisan nationally recognized nongovernmental groups such as the National Center for State Courts and from official government sources such as the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics.
The title of the report is “Justice for Philadelphia Courts: A qualitative and quantitative analysis on the quality of justice administered by Philadelphia Courts.” The report highlights the most recent reviews of Philadelphia courts by the National Center for State Courts, Court Statistics Project, and the Bureau of Justice Statistics, conducts fact checking of recent reports about Philadelphia courts, and compares Philadelphia courts to other Pennsylvania courts and courts in similar size from across the country.
The report shows the Philadelphia courts have won numerous awards over the past 7 years, as well as, praise from national organizations such as the National Center for State Courts exclaiming the Philadelphia courts as “one of the finest and most successful urban trial courts in the country.”
The report also counters recent attacks by extreme, outsider, lobbying groups who have been driving the false narrative that Philadelphia courts are one of the worst in the nation. This includes ATRA’s targeting of Philadelphia courts in its most recent Judicial Hellholes report.
Taking Back our Courts is a new civil justice initiative, created by Keystone Progress, designed to protect the integrity of Philadelphia courts and promote consumers’ constitutional right for fair access to justice.
