New Report: Policies that Prepare the Workforce for Middle-Skill Infrastructure Jobs

As the White House recently hosted a major national summit on community colleges, PolicyLink is pleased to release a new report showing how innovative programs at California community colleges are making tremendous strides training tomorrow’s workforce.
The new report, “Pathways out of Poverty for Vulnerable Californians: Policies that Prepare the Workforce for Middle-Skill Infrastructure Jobs,” shows how community colleges are a vital bridge to expanding job opportunities for low-income young people and workers displaced by the recession. The report also highlights innovative training programs that are already succeeding.
While the report focuses on California, its policy prescriptions are applicable across the nation.
Smart infrastructure investments not only create jobs for those actively involved in building or maintaining these systems, but also create more vibrant, opportunity-rich communities. An equity-based workforce training strategy — with community colleges at the core — is crucial to preparing vulnerable Americans to compete in an increasingly competitive labor market.
