New Report: Educating Students Effective Citizenship
Posted by on February 28, 2004
The National Center for Learning and Citizenship recently published an issue paper on the efforts of ten U.S. high schools to educate students for effective citizenship. These schools take a variety of approaches to citizenship education, and all but one of the schools utilizes service-learning as a key strategy.
The new issue paper includes brief descriptions of each high school, as well as information about the effects of district and state policy on teaching practice, and concludes with recommendations for policymakers, schools and districts, and teacher educators.
The new issue brief, along with other recent publications and a database on state policies that support citizenship education, is available on the National Center for Learning and Citizenship website at http://www.ecs.org/nclc.
