Gender Equality and the Economy

The Institute is extending its longstanding concern with economic inequality to develop a new program of research on gender equality and the economy. This will consider not only the impact of economic processes and economic policy on gender equality, but also how existing gender asymmetries within and outside labor markets influence economic outcomes. It will also investigate the extent to which a gender perspective necessitates a re-thinking of key economic concepts, models and measures. Gender equality will be considered in intersection with other forms of inequality, based on occupation, race and ethnicity, location etc.

The program will focus on four areas of research:
* Public finance and gender equality;
* Time use, unpaid work and gender equality;
* Gender dimensions of macroeconomic policy;
* International trade and gender equality.
