SCHOOLS AS CENTERS OF COMMUNITY: CITIZENS’ GUIDE FOR PLANNING & DESIGN
Authors Steven Bingler, Linda Quinn, and Kevin Sullivan outline a process for planning schools that more adequately addresses the needs of the whole community. The 76-page publication presents six design principles for creating effective learning environments, 13 case studies illustrating various aspects of the six design principles, and a facilities planning process for developing and implementing a master plan. This is a joint publication by NCEF, KnowledgeWorks Foundation, Council of Educational Facility Planners, Building Educational Success Together, and Coalition for Community Schools. A PDF version may now be downloaded at the NCEF website and printed copies will be available soon.
