New Book: Food Justice
Posted by on January 30, 2011
Folks– I wanted to encourage you to check out a new book that has been recently released by Community Food Security Coalition co-founder Bob Gottlieb and our colleague in the National Farm to School Network, Anupama Joshi. Their book is called Food Justice.
It’s an important book. It helps to frame food justice as a concept, and to better understand the emerging food justice movement. They make the case that food justice can play the same role in the food movement that environmental justice played in the enviro movement- to broaden the set of actors in the food movement and to strengthen social justice in the food movement.
Check out their website at http://www.foodjusticebook.org, which they are using to post commentaries, list resources and also list the talks that they’re doing across the country.
They are setting up these talks, in many cases, with food justice groups, some of whom they profile in their book. For example, one of their first events was with the Rethinkers in New Orleans as well as a talk and panel on food justice they hosted at the CFSC conference last October.
Take a look at their events page on the book website and you can see if they’re planning an event in your community. If not, you might see if they have future plans to do so.
