New Article: How The States Can Lead The Fight Against Hunger
Posted by Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity on January 10, 2023
In this Spotlight Exclusive, Hunger Free America CEO Joel Berg summarizes his new policy paper providing actions state governors and legislators can take to address the hunger crisis. With congressional conflict on the horizon, Berg believes investments “in policies to increase economic opportunity such as raising the minimum wage and making existing anti-hunger benefits easier to access” will significantly advance anti-poverty efforts. Berg also provides insight into additional policies to help lift people out of poverty. For example, he says, policymakers should take advantage of programs such as the Hope Act and former President Bill Clinton’s AmeriCorps program that fights hunger while providing a free college education. By rewarding work and following his recommendations, Berg argues we can end U.S. hunger and ensure good nutrition for all Americans.
