Over its forty year history, the community development field has continually grown and adapted while pursuing a vision of positive community change. Today, despite significant challenges—including the lingering effects of the foreclosure crisis and great recession, an increase in concentrated poverty, and declining public supports—community development organizations are implementing exciting and innovative new models that have the potential for significant impact in improving lives and communities. While these models are rooted in the origins of the community development movement, they strive for a more strategic, integrated and results-oriented approach.
