Neighborhood Centers sponsor night of urban farming…and astronomy
Teens 4 Good, a program of the Federation of Neighborhood Centers, is a youth-led food production and nutrition business that transforms vacant lots into urban farms that grow fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers.
Visit the first Teens 4 Good farm at 800 Poplar Street in Philadelphia on Friday, April 27th and meet the T4G youth and farmers as they give tours of the farm. During the tour, participants will learn about the different crops the youth grow; a new water catchment system that recycles water for irrigating their produce; and the Teens 4 Good weekly market stand. In addition, they will receive delicious chocolate candy made from the T4G home grown mint.
After the tour, T4G will sponsor its first Astronomy night where, under the guidance of a Franklin Institute astronomer, participants will shift their gazes to the sky to learn about the stars and planets above us.
Farm tours will take place from 6pm – 7:30pm and the astronomy discussion will take place from 7:30 – 9pm.
