Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) Coordinator

The ACHIEVEability/Haddington-Cobbs Creek NAC is looking for a NAC Coordinator who will undertake outreach efforts to improve the quality of life in our service area in West Philadelphia. Our service area consists of Census Tracts 93-96 and 81-84, which is roughly from 49th Street to 63rd Street between Market and Vine Streets (with several sections extending into Callowhill) and from 54th Street to Cobbs Creek Parkway between Market Street and Baltimore Avenue.

To be successful, the NAC Coordinator has to have a sense of mission about improving our West Philadelphia neighborhood. He/she is customer service-oriented. He/she has outstanding people skills complemented by administrative skills. He/she is patient, respectful, postive and friendly but also has a sense of urgency about meeting goals, objectives and deadlines. He/she has excellent public speaking skills as well as writing skills. He/she is a good listener. He/she is a self-directed person who can work with a team. He/she is disciplined and works hard and smart. He/she is a critical thinker who does long-range planning and is single-minded about achieving goals and objectives – while having the flexibility and agility to deal with chaos and multiple perspectives. He/she can manage others and is able to take direction.

Overall Purpose
The NAC Coordinator works to facilitate residents in playing an advisory role in accessing, planning and implementing activities to be undertaken by the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD). The priorities of the ACHIEVEability/Haddington-Cobbs Creek NAC are the following:

·         facilitate information-sharing between residents and city government

·         improve the neighborhood’s quality of life by fostering access to services offered by government agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses

·         contribute to achieving the community’s vision:

Haddington-Cobbs Creek will be a safe, healthy, vibrant, technologically savvy and hopeful community, where:

§  Success and our heritage are celebrated;

§  Cultural diversity is embraced;

§  Education is valued;

§  Economic opportunities are created and capitalized on;

§  Collaboration and effective communication are fostered; and

§  Everyone—young and old—can reach their potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The NAC Coordinator’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

Program Implementation

* Advertise and promote the NAC and its activities
* Facilitate at least four service area briefings each year
* Publish at least four newsletters each year
* Plan and implement an annual calendar of activities focused on the main topic areas of housing and community, environmental stewardship, human development and neighborhood building
* Provide referrals and information to office visitors or via electronic and print materials
* Network with and coordinate activities with other NAC agencies and community organizations and institutions
* Lead or participate in neighborhood planning activities
* Learn about and keep current about different OHCD programs as well as other community programs and services

Administrative/Recordkeeping

* Provide coverage or ensure coverage of the NAC office during all office hours
* Provide advance notice of the NAC’s service area briefings and community activities to OHCD
* Maintain recordkeeping of all NAC meetings and activities including copies of advertisements, sign in sheets, agendas, participant feedback forms, expenses, etc.
* Maintain an electronic database of all participants at all activities
* Compile current information on services and contacts at community organizations, schools and institutions in our service area; Compile and update community resource guide
* Maintain information on residents’ complaints and issues and follow-up steps
* Maintain logs of office services and prepare daily timesheets
* Prepare monthly reports
* Participate in ACHIEVEability meetings and other happenings

Minimum Qualifications:

* Integrity, honesty, forthrightness
* Philosophy of transparency, accountability and personal responsibility for self and for others
* Demonstrated ability to develop and strengthen relationships with residents, businesses, community organizations, public and private institutions and other stakeholders
* Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, presentation and public speaking skills
* Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Publisher are required. HTML and Front Page are a plus
* Business skills; Basic knowledge of bookkeeping
* Familiarity with OHCD programs and resources, or the ability to quickly learn these
* Ability to integrate social impact, compassion, efficiency, effectiveness and productivity in work products
* At least one year’s experience in nonprofit management and, preferably, at least one year’s experience in a for-profit enterprise
* Ability to multi-task
* Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours as necessary
* Flexibility to meet changing needs and priorities as they occur
* Outstanding problem solving skills
* Ability to exercise discretionary judgment and handle difficult situations calmly, graciously and constructively
* Excellent organizing skills
* Great work ethic, positive attitude
* Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

* Well-rounded
* At least an associate’s degree is preferred
* Ability to successfully pass background checks (criminal, child abuse, drug use, driving record)
* Reliable vehicle that is available for use at work
* Valid driver’s license, insurance and auto registration
* Ability to lift and transport materials related to community meetings and projects
* Residency in the NAC service area is a plus.
