Job Description – Neighborhood Advisory Committee Coordinator

Reports to: Vice President, Real Estate and Economic Development
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary:
The NAC Coordinator will manage the day to day activities required of Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) under the standard contract with the City of Philadelphia. The Coordinator will manage, organize and implement initiatives, activities and events according to the NAC contract. The ideal candidate should have an interest in grassroots community organizing and a passion for empowering community residents. He/she will work collaboratively with other program staff to help implement the strategies outlined in PEC’s recently completed Make Your Mark! Lower Lancaster Revitalization Plan. This is a twelve-month contract position and ends September 30, 2014.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Organize and implement a NAC committee election process open to all residents of PEC’s service area.
– Host monthly NAC committee meetings, working with resident-elected members to identify ways to help further empower residents served by PEC.
– Refer residents to sources of assistance in city government and other organizations Pennsylvania property tax, rental rebates and energy assistance application (LIHEAP) completion
– Provide monthly outreach as part of the City’s Foreclosure Diversion Program.
– Provide assistance to residents and civic groups on city planning and zoning matters.
– Provide capacity-building assistance to community groups for neighborhood improvement.
– Organize, promote and conduct quarterly community service briefings, special events and projects. Ensure meetings and events are well-organized, with proper representation for staff, board, or NAC committee members, set-up and breakdown of meeting/events locations.
– Create and periodically update directory of community resources.
– Maintain business relations with elected and city officials
– Responsible for implementation of the Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) contract; invoicing, contract compliance and operational requirements. Complete all aspects of Neighborhood Advisory Committee contract, coordinated with the Office of Housing and Community Development.
– Represent PEC with partner organizations, city agencies, neighborhood groups and meetings/events pertinent to mission of the organization.

Required Education and Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree or two (2) years post-secondary education with related experience
– Above average technical/computer skills; basic web, database and MS Office
– Knowledge of grant implementation and reporting
– Knowledge of city-wide agencies and policies (as applicable to community development); knowledge of West Philadelphia organizations and issues preferred
