Natural Areas Coordinator for Tyler Arboretum

Responsibilities:
The Natural Areas Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a program of restoration for an 11-acre forest within the deer exclusion fence at Tyler Arboretum, known as the North Woods. The Natural Areas Coordinator will work with department staff to create and then implement the management plan that will promote the growth and regeneration of native plants and control invasive plant species in this 11-acre site. He/She will work with staff; manage contractors and volunteers to implement the management plans. He/She will be responsible for mapping and inventorying the native plant species in this ecosystem as well as replanting efforts. Accurate records of work performed will be required. The Natural Areas Coordinator will work in partnership with our Education Staff in the development of the educational programs as it relates to the North Woods.

Qualifications:
Candidate must be self-directed, organized, responsible, and possess good written and verbal communication skills. A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture, forestry, ecology or related field with 3 years experience working with native plants and invasive species is required. A valid PA pesticide applicator’s license and driver’s license will be required. Experience using Geographic Information Systems is preferred. Some occasional weekend work may be required.

Schedule:
Position is grant funded, part-time, primarily weekdays, approximately 15 hours per week year round. Some weekend work may be required to work with volunteer groups.

Commensurate with experience
