National Youth Service Day: April 15-17th
From April 15-17th, Greater Philadelphia Cares will serve as the region?s Lead Agency, hosting a local celebration of National Youth Service Day (NYSD). Coordinated by Youth Service America, NYSD is the nation?s largest service event showcasing the incredible talent and leadership potential of youth. Youth, ages 5 to 25, will participate in exciting activities throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, gaining a better understanding of citizenship and beginning a lifelong path of service and community engagement. Mark your calendars for our Celebration Event, taking place Saturday, April 16 from 9:00am to 1:00pm. In partnership with youth leaders and youth service workers, we are developing projects in the following issue areas: community development/anti-blight initiatives, homelessness and hunger, the environment, education/literacy, seniors, people living with disabilities, people living with HIV/ AIDS, and animals. These model projects will then be adapted to various locations throughout the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond.
