National Youth Service Day and Philadelphia Youth Service Award

Posted by on February 28, 2003

For the last 15 years, the National Youth Service Day has grown into a national service tradition that demonstrates the effectiveness and strength of young people serving their communities. Projects for NYSD can be part of ongoing initiatives; serve as a beginning for new programs; be a stand alone, single day project; function as a leadership development opportunity for youth; and serve as a recognition event. For ideas and suggestions please feel free to contact Craig Heim, Assistant City Director – National School & Community Corps at 215-351-7656.

Each organization is asked to submit registration forms for every project they are sponsoring. This is a very simple form that provides key information about your project. If schools/ organizations have participants but do not have projects, please indicate this so we can work to match you with a project. Please submit you Project Registration form by March 7, 2003. We will register the projects with Youth Service America.

Philadelphia Youth Service Award – Attached is a copy of the nomination form for a young person (ages 5-25) who has demonstrated the spirit of community service. You are invited to nominate a young person for each project your organization is sponsoring. We will have certificates and a small gift for them to be given at the kick-off rallies. The deadline for submitting nominations is March 20, 2003. NSCC will get water bottles for NYSD participants as incentives. For those organizations interested in ordering the official NYSD T-shirts, we will pass on the information.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and participation in making National Youth Service Day 2003 a complete success.
