Posted by Cheyney University on May 1, 2017
Cheyney University is pleased to announce that it will host the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) for high school students in grades 10, 11, and 12 on its campus in Chester County, Pennsylvania. NSTI dates at Cheyney University are July 16 through August 4, 2017. NSTI is for students who have an interest in learning more about the transportation industry, its various modalities (e.g., highways, aviation, transit and maritime) and the myriad of career opportunities. All accepted students receive full scholarships covering tuition, room and board.
This educational initiative is a partnership between the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Cheyney University. The program vision is to develop a diverse, well-qualified workforce for the transportation industry.
The students will participate in an intensive program focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) disciplines. A repeat component for the fourth year to NSTI at Cheyney University will be the Aviation Career Education Academy (ACE).
The ACE Academy is being offer in collaboration with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP). As part of the ACE Academy, students will experience in-depth classroom discussions and presentations by aeronautical professionals in the field of aviation. Field trips to aviation related facilities will include tours of behind the scenes operations not typically accessible to the general public but specifically arranged for ACE Academy participants.
Additional activities include a transportation career fair, bridge building projects, and several other transportation related field trips. The program is a weekday residential program starting Sundays at 6:00 p.m. through Fridays at 4:30 p.m.
