National Girls & Women in Sports Day – Apr 14
Posted by Temple University on March 3, 2020
Each year Temple University does a one afternoon event to support and encourage girls to play sports. This year’s event will be held April 14th from 3:30pm-6:30pm for all middle school girls. Girls get a chance to participate in 5-10 different sports stations at Temple’s huge indoor turf field house (The Pavillion) and they receive instruction from the coaches and women on those teams. All the while, fun music is pumping loudly in the background, they get a goodie bag of Temple Athletics posters, a T-shirt, and even a dinner to take with them.
Why do they do this? We know from research that girls who participate in sports report greater self-confidence, are happier with themselves as people, build excellent communication skills, are less likely to engage in risky behaviors and…fun fact…approximately 95% of female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies identify themselves as an athlete. This event exposes girls to a variety of sports in a fun, supportive environment.
