National Association for Multicultural Education Conference
Posted by on October 28, 2013
The National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) continues to be one of the most important organizations in the country promoting critical, antiracist teaching for social justice.
Their annual conference is November 6-10, 2013 in Oakland, Calif., and we urge you to attend.
This year’s theme is “Erasing the Shadows, Embracing the Light: Re/Visioning Multicultural Education.”
Rethinking Schools editors presented at the first NAME conference in New Orleans, 23 years ago, and this year, we’ll be back with a booth anchored by our managing editor Jody Sokolower, and joined by Rethinking Schools editorial associate, Grace Gonzales.
Jody will also be co-facilitating a workshop with Ziad Abbas on “Weaving Palestine into the Curriculum” and Ziad is one of the presenters at the Global Educators Panel.
Scholar and lifelong political activist Angela Davis is among several impressive keynote speakers. The program includes a diverse selection of workshops and presentations, and the weekend kicks off with a special screening of the film “Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequality” and a talk-back with filmmaker Shakti Butler.
