NASPA Free Speech Concern Gathering
Posted by NASPA - Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education on April 30, 2019
The NASPA Civic Learning & Democratic Engagement Lead Initiative advisory board is working to develop deliberative resources to help campuses navigate issues around free speech. We are in a concern gathering phase, which means we would love to hear from staff at different campuses about their concerns relating to free speech and the inclusive campus – the challenges, the opportunities, the tensions that exist, and the needs that you see that would help campuses navigate these and other complex and often controversial issues.
As part of this process, we are offering multiple online concern gathering sessions, similar to focus groups, and wanted to invite you to participate. You do not have to be a member of NASPA to participate. These sessions are open to professionals at all levels working in any department or functional area. We want as broad as representation as possible. Although it is listed as a “course,” each session is stand-alone, and you need only participate in one session.
Digital concern gathering sessions:
- Thursday, May 16th – 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 29th – 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 12th – 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
You can register for the sessions and read more about the project here.
All of these voices and input will help shape the creation of a deliberative issue guide that will be available for professionals to use in working through these issues on their respective campuses. All participants will receive project notifications when these resources are available.
Please contact Erin L. Payseur Oeth, elpayseu@olemiss.edu if you have any questions or want to chat more about it.
