Museums offer paid summer diversity internships

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in partnership with the Pennsylvania Federation of Museums and Historical Organizations has created The Diversity Internship Program to introduce students to professional opportunities in museums with the goal of increasing the diversity of professional employees throughout the state of Pennsylvania.

Paid student internships with a stipend of $4,000 will be funded at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the African American Museum of Philadelphia through this program.

Interns will work for twelve weeks, from May 17 to August 6, 2010. All interns are expected to work five 7.5 hour days per week; some positions may involve evening and weekend work. Applicants must be students in good standing during the spring 2010 semester and be planning to return to school for the fall 2010 semester. Preference will be given to students who are permanent residents of Pennsylvania and/or matriculating at Pennsylvania colleges or universities.

The program is designed to introduce upper level undergraduate and graduate students of diverse backgrounds to careers in museums and related fields. The program represents a commitment to increase staff diversity in Pennsylvania’s museums and cultural organizations.

For more information, call 215)-684-7592 or email [email protected].

The application deadline is January 22nd.
