Multi-Faith Conference on Suicide Prevention
Posted by on May 9, 2003
On Wednesday, May 28, the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (GPAFSP) will host a multi-faith, educational conference for clergy on suicide prevention, intervention and bereavement.
This conference will take place at the Beth-Zion Beth-Israel Synagogue at 300 South 18th Street, in Philadelphia, from 12:30-4:30. Registration fees are $40 per person.
Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States? and the only leading cause of death that is not addressed in the public dialogue. It is an equal-opportunity tragedy, touching every age group, race, ethnic group, and social class. The Surgeon General has defined suicide as a national public health crisis.
Clergy play a critical role in working those who are at risk and in crisis, as well as supporting those who have lost someone to suicide. Please forward this information on to anyone who might be interested. For information and registration, contact the GPAFSP at (215) 746-7256.
