Posted by on August 12, 2013
PowerCorpsPHL is a new youth workforce development initiative with significant funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service through the Governor and Mayor Initiative. Over three years, this innovative AmeriCorps program will engage 300 at-risk young adults (ages 18-26) in six months of full time national service followed by three months of intense job placement support. While serving as AmeriCorps members, program participants will support Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Philadelphia Water Department in planting trees, revitalizing public land and preserving the City’s watersheds. PowerCorpsPHL is designed to address Mayor Michael A. Nutter and Governor Tom Corbett’s environmental stewardship initiatives as well as the City of Philadelphia’s youth workforce development and violence prevention priorities.
The Operations Manager for Program Culture will work in tandem with the Operations Manager for Program Structure to closely support and supervise five Crew Leaders in their support and supervision of 50 AmeriCorps members at a time and will take the lead in fostering cohort community and program culture across crews.
The Crew Leader will serve as a work supervisor, role model, and mentor to 10 AmeriCorps members and is responsible for the crew’s overall work performance and safety. Knowledge of sustainability principles and experience with youth workforce development preferred.
The Parks & Recreation Service Coordinator will work closely with PowerCorpsPHL program staff and staff at Philadelphia Parks and Recreation to design and implement two, six-month rounds of full-time service per year for 4 work crews.
The Placement Coordinator will cultivate partnerships with education and training institutes, potential employers and relevant national service programs in order to place, with at least 6 months retention, 100 PowerCorpsPHL participants per year in jobs, post-secondary educational institutions, and/or national service programs.
The Social Services Coordinator is responsible for a caseload of 100 18-26 year olds at risk of committing a violent offense and will work closely with staff employed by our youth referral agencies to ensure that program participants continue to receive support from those agencies, social services, and any other benefits for which they qualify.
