Come help us celebrate the beginning of tax season! EITC National Awareness Day is an event organized by the Internal Revenue Service and its stakeholders to educate the public about Earned Income Tax Credit and the hundreds of dollars that working families can save each year on their income tax returns. Qualifying EITC taxpayers are eligible to receive FREE tax preparation services at several locations in Montgomery County.

There is more exciting news this year. There have been changes made to EITC due to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). The recent changes allow eligible taxpayers to claim a third qualifying child. Also, ARRA has increased the beginning point of the phase-out range for the credit for all married couples filing a joint return, regardless of the number of children. These changes apply to 2009 and 2010 tax returns.

CADCOM has been providing volunteer tax preparers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for over six years. As the convening organization under the Montgomery County Tax Coalition, CADCOM is one of six nonprofit organizations that provide FREE tax preparation services to eligible taxpayers. Other MCTC sites include Community Housing Services in Lansdale, Indian Valley Public Library in Telford, Temple University-Ambler, and the Pottstown Family Center.

For more information on the EITC National Awareness Day Rally or to locate VITA sites open in your area during the upcoming tax season, please contact Michele Burgh, MCTC Program Coordinator at 610-277-6363 ext. 166 or via e-mail at MBurgh@cadcom.org.
