For someone who has been involved in the criminal justice system with hopes of a second chance, there is nothing more daunting than overcoming the barriers to accessing basic needs. One of the primary barriers is the existence of a Criminal Record. On Saturday, March 17, 2018, the Montgomery County Office of the Public Defender will co-host a Criminal Record Expungement Community Clinic at Arcadia University in The Commons Great Room, from 9 AM – 4 PM, in partnership with Senator Art Haywood; the Office of Public Engagement for the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General; Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania; Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law Pro Bono Society; Arcadia University’s Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice Department; the Arcadia Pan African Studies Department; the Black Male Development Symposium; the Cheltenham Branch of the NAACP; Salem Baptist Church of Jenkintown; Family Services of Montgomery County; Melanin In Action (Arcadia University); the Young Democratic Socialists of Arcadia University; Toll Public Interest Center, University of Pennsylvania Law School; and, Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity.

Pro Bono attorneys, law students, and other community volunteers will be available to assist adults with cases in Montgomery County with assessing their eligibility for expungement, and with drafting pro se petitions. For more information, or to pre-register, call Senator Haywood’s Office at 215-242-8171.
