Title: Mobile Lab Computer Trainer
Employer: Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center (Philadelphia OIC Digital Initiative)
Program: Neighborhood Opportunities thru Mobile Accessible Destinations (NOMAD)
Hours: 24 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
(Inclusive of four weeks of training- one week per quarter).
Hourly rate: $12.00/hr.
Schedule: Required hours
9am to 3pm
Schedule operates Monday through Thursday
Duties: Philadelphia OIC, Inc. is seeking a Mobile Lab Computer Trainer to teach basic & intermediate computing skills workshops and address individualized computer questions in relation to the workshop(s) as they are required. This position supports the Philadelphia OIC Digital Initiative as part of the Philadelphia Department of Technology’s Freedom Rings Partnership (Broadband Technology Opportunity Program Grant).
Responsibilities:
The Mobile Lab Trainer works with the Lead Trainer and the Program Manager to determine the best way to meet the technology needs of the local community. The Mobile Lab Trainers and the Program Manager will work to provide a variety of classes that will benefit small businesses, senior citizens, elementary and high school students, and community groups. The Mobile Lab Trainer will create training packets and propose specific trainings based on workshop feedback and surveys. The Mobile Lab Trainer must conduct each scheduled workshop and is required to keep records of the number of patrons served, classes held, and topics covered. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: With accommodations, the employee in this position needs to conduct 2 workshops at 2 different sites per day. The employee must be able to stand for long periods of time while instructing and operating a computer workstation and projector. The employee will also need to push a 250-300 pound mobile cart up and down a low ramp and into and out of buildings. For the instructional service aspect of this position, it is critical to possess strong communication skills both in person and with digital methods (email, wiki, digital postings, etc).
Ideal candidates must:
• Possess an Associate or Bachelors Degree
• Be a bilingual speaker (preferred but not required)
• Have some record keeping experience (attendance, service records, student progress, etc.)
• Be available to work during the following hours:
— Weekdays (Monday through Thursday: 9pm – 3pm)
• Reside in Philadelphia
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
• Possess the minimum level of computer skills required including:
— Experience using Mac computers (preferred but not required)
— Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, online job search, and Internet safety.
— Basic familiarity with interactive web options such as Facebook, blogs, wikis, and Internet Safety.
• Demonstrate a strong ability to USE and TEACH technology to a wide range of learners with various abilities
• Demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and facilitate computer training classes
• Demonstrate a desire to work with adults, teens, and children
• Have a valid drivers license and good driving record
