2023 MLK Day of Service: Work Together to Help Democracy Thrive

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in a nation of freedom and justice for all, and encouraged all citizens to live up to the purpose and potential of America by applying the principles of nonviolence. MLK Day of Service is a way to honor his life and teachings by engaging in community action that continues to solve social problems.
As you choose how you will participate in this year’s MLK Day of Service, plan to work together to help democracy thrive by registering, educating, and engaging new young voters in preparation for elections in 2023 and 2024. Here are 3 ways to get started:
Voter Registration Activities
- Register to vote or check your registration status at weall.vote/ysa.
- K-12 Schools: Make your school a civic engagement and voter registration hub with My School Votes. Rock the Vote, League of Women Voters, Learning for Justice, 18by.Vote, Inspire2Vote, and The Civics Center also have voter registration resources for high schools.
- Higher Ed Institutions: Connect with Students Learn Students Vote, the All In Campus Democracy Challenge, CampusVote Project, Ask Every Student, NSLVE, or Civic Influencers.
Voter Education Activities
- Create your own nonpartisan voter guides.
- Check out Rock the Vote’s Democracy Class, Teaching for Democracy Alliance, iCivics Election Headquarters, Learning to Give, Learning for Justice, GenerationCitizen, and Civic Influencers for civic education activities to help educate new and future voters.
Voter Engagement Activities
- Organize a Community Dialogue About an Issue
