Membership Coordination Internship, Mariposa Food Co-op

Mariposa Food Co-op has been providing its members access to healthy, locally-grown, and sustainably-produced food for almost 40 years. Mariposa has outgrown its current space. In January 2012 we will open a new store, five times the size of our current location.
Over the next few months Mariposa will be hiring for a range of additional, part-time and permanent staff positions.
Membership Coordination Internship
Mariposa Food Co-op is looking for an energetic self-starter seeking professional experience in membership management and communications to help open our new food co-op. There are a lot of exciting changes at Mariposa and lots of work to be done as we prepare to open our new store.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Candidates should have good computer skills and be tech-savvy.
Must be comfortable using Excel and MS Word. We are committed to providing training on any other systems and programs the intern may not be familiar with.
Good organizational skills are a must.
Social media, web and multimedia editing experience a plus.
Previous office, membership management experience also a plus.
Commitment to or previous experience in food access, food justice, anti-oppression, cooperatives, and consensus based decision-making a plus.
Projects:
Applicants will be able to gain knowledge in the following areas: member organizing and volunteer management, non-profit co-operative business models, marketing and communications, sustainable products and food.
Communications with over 1000 members, including assisting with material development and web content.
Help with member coordination, including development and implementation of new membership management systems.
Assisting with new member orientations, development, and training.
Assist with New Store Membership Drive, including processing applications and possibly doing outreach.
While there is specific help that we seek, the internship can be tailored to the interests and strengths of the intern. There is also the opportunity for have hands-on experience on retail floor assisting with the products if candidates are interested. Intern will be working with guidance and supervision on all projects.
Compensation:
Subsidized Mariposa membership equity ($200 value)
Working-member discount for length of internship
$20-30/week store credit with minimum 10 hours
Other Details:
Unpaid 10-15 hrs per week with flexible scheduling.
Hiring for a January start date, with the option to begin sooner.
You will work primarily from our new offices at 4824 Baltimore Avenue.

Please specify in cover letter, which months you are looking to intern with us. We are looking to fill the position from January-May. However their is opportunity to start as soon as December 1st, and to go through the summer.
