Kol Tzedek, a Voice for Justice, is a young and growing Reconstructionist social justice-focused synagogue in West Philadelphia, founded in 2004. We currently have 370 member households. We are artists, organizers, academics, parents, professionals, students, social workers, midwives, and misfits. We are a mixed multitude; people of varied ages, racial identities, abilities, and genders committed to racial and economic justice. We are Black, Latinx, Asian, multiracial, white, Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrahi. We are people who ask a lot of questions. We are neighbors and friends who cook, sing, and care for one another. And we have decided to bind our lives together in sacred community. Kol Tzedek Torah School (KTTS) is a Reconstructionist Torah School rooted in Judaism as a living tradition and justice as a guiding value. In our diverse and inclusive community, students learn Jewish history, text, and culture. We engage the whole student through creative projects, interactive lessons, and group discussions.
This role is essential to our core work as a synagogue: gathering together in prayer and celebration and building connections with each other. Its core responsibilities include supporting new and existing programs that create connective and meaningful experiences for the Kol Tzedek community, engaging Kol Tzedek members and supporting connections between members, and acting as the welcoming face who helps new members get involved!
Core Responsibilities:
- Program and Event Coordination – manage logistical coordination of holiday events, special events, synagogue programs and services (including adult education, B’nei mitzvah & shabbat).
- Logistics & Systems – work to administer physical and virtual systems that allow for smooth operations of events and work
- Membership Engagement – support greater member participation, coordinate membership renewal, manage membership database, and engage prospective and new members
- Volunteer Coordination – recruit, train, and manage synagogue volunteers for Shabbatot and synagogue events (through our Hospitality Program)
- Communications – work with other staff to manage congregant communications, including our weekly newsletter, website and social media
