Volunteer for Phila. Legal Assistance Medical Legal Community Partnership

Interested in public health or public interest law? Volunteer with the Medical-Legal-Community Partnership (MLCP) to experience both!

The MLCP provides free legal assistance to patients at community health centers. We are in the midst of expanding the program to Health Center #5 (1900 N 20th St) and require the help of dedicated volunteers! Working alongside MLCP staff, volunteers will conduct needs-assessment surveys among HC5 patients and spread information about the MLCP and its impact.

Join us!

Additional volunteer opportunities are available for law students and Spanish-speaking undergraduates. Please indicate this when you contact MLCP.

The MLCP is a partnership between Philadelphia Legal Assistance (PLA) and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.

What does the MLCP do?

The MLCP is based on a national model that partners legal services with health centers to address the “social determinants of health”. These factors must be addressed to ensure effective medical treatment. They can include:

  • Access to benefits
  • Safe housing
  • Adequate food
  • Fair workplace practices
  • Safety from violence

92% of clients felt more hopeful and less stressed after MLCP services
