Medical Advocate, Congreso de Latinos

Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc., a dynamic nonprofit, is currently seeking a full-time Medical Advocate to work within its Health Promotion and Wellness division. This position is responsible for conducting culturally and linguistically competent domestic violence screening and assessment workshops to medical and professional staff, in one-on-one or group mediums. In addition, the Medical Advocate is responsible for community education and community outreach for the purpose of increasing the levels of awareness of domestic violence, and to offer Latina Domestic Violence Services (LDVP) services and resources to victims and survivors. Work will be conducted at Congreso’s main office, local community hospitals, health centers, and on the Program’s 24-hour crisis hotline.
The Medical Advocate will report directly to the Counseling Coordinator and participate in department activities as necessary. In absence of the Counseling Coordinator, the Medical Advocate will report directly to the Department Manager.

Essential Responsibilities
Develop and identify educational materials with the assistance and input of the Coordinator and Program Manager.
Assure appropriateness of language of educational materials.
Develop collaborative relationships with medical and professional staff at area health centers and hospitals.
Develop educational and support group curriculum for program
Schedule workshops, presentations, and forums throughout hospital departments/health centers, and medical/nursing schools.
Recruit a specified number of individuals to participate in educational and support groups.
Select educational materials most appropriate for the different age groups, gender, and educational levels of group participants
Assist in facilitating the 45-hour training for volunteer staff and other para-professionals to perform domestic violence advocacy and prevention-related functions
Provide off-site counseling, referral, and advocacy at local community hospitals as well as on-site at Congreso.
Provide resource information to hospitals, staff and patients.
Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work or related field (suitable
combination of education and three to four years of direct work experience in related field may be
considered in lieu of Associate’s degree requirement)
2 or more years of work experience in domestic violence community education, counseling or other health promotion and education services
Group facilitation experience
Certification/License: Completion of the Domestic Violence 40 hour training certificate provided from an approved PCADV training program required.
