The Youth Visions for Stronger Neighborhoods, a current CTCNet grant initiative, provides community technology programs and their youth with the opportunity to participate in community problem-solving using the latest multimedia technology. Attend this workshop to learn about the successful 2005 grantee projects, and how your organization can join the project in 2006. A third grant round will be announced in September 2005.

The Youth Visions pre-conference workshop aims to highlight the value of media literacy and production skills for today?s youth, as well as the potential for using multimedia to engage youth and adults in positive community action. To illustrate this point, the 2005 Youth Visions grantees ? many with youth from their programs ? will showcase their multimedia presentations and discuss how the videos increased awareness of their neighborhoods? assets. Participants will also hear how at-risk youth from across the country used their multimedia creations to address pressing community needs, such as immigration, teen pregnancy prevention, youth leadership, affordable housing, arts and cultural activities, and neighborhood planning. In addition, Andrea Quijada from the New Mexico Media Literacy Project, http://www.nmmlp.org, will lead an interactive discussion on media literacy as a critical tool for youth navigating a society filled with multiple and powerful media influences.
