Friends —

On any given night, thousands of Philadelphia children, women, and men go to bed hungry and wake up not knowing where they will get their next meal. To help combat this, Philadelphia Food Access Collaborative is NOW accepting applications for its Meals and More Program.

Successful soup kitchens will get funds to expand their meal services to a new time and connect individuals in need to other essential services. Grantees will receive:

• $7,500 grant to support the development of the new meal time
• Receive monthly donations of healthy food items valued at $1,000 total over the course of the year
• High quality training for new and existing volunteers in food safety, healthy food preparation and social service skills

THE DEADLINE FOR APPLYING FOR THIS GRANT IS OCTOBER 12, 2015.

The Food Access Collaborative is a network of hunger fighting organizations working together to increase access to congregate meals in a safe, dignified setting. It supports meal providers by providing technical assistance and support. This support includes connecting meal providers to social and health care resources and vital information for meal guests. Training, on topics such as safe food practices, how to prepare nutritious meals inexpensively, and using a trauma-informed approach to providing services, are offered throughout the year. The Collaborative also assists meal providers with volunteer needs, such as training and recruitment.

Through the Collaborative’s use of a proven community engagement model, and your help and commitment, we can help support the many Philadelphia residents who go hungry every day.
