Mayoral Forum on Education
Posted by on March 5, 2007
The members of the Philadelphia Cross City Campaign for School Reform wanted me to let you all know that we will be hosting a mayoral forum on education on April 12, 6:30 PM at Rodeph Shalom (615 North Broad Street).
As most of you know, Cross City is a coalition of groups working to improve Philadelphia’s schools ? and to enable students and parents to hold the schools accountable. Cross City is firmly convinced that the next mayor has to take an active role in improving public education and that there is a lot the mayor can do to provide that leadership.
The mayoral forum is an opportunity for parents, students, and community members to get a sense of each candidate?s views on education and to demonstrate to the candidates that education is a key issue in this election ? and that they will hold the next mayor accountable for improving their schools.
This event is in collaboration with the editorial board of the Philadelphia Inquirer and in conjunction with their earlier citizens? dialog forum on education. We are also working with The Next Mayor project to publicize the forum.
We hope that you and members of your organization can join us for this event.
Call or email me if you have any questions.
The mayoral forum is being sponsored by member organizations of the Philadelphia Cross City Campaign for School Reform, an alliance of local education groups that are committed to improving Philadelphia public schools through organizing parents, students, and other stakeholders for change. Member organizations include: ACORN, Eastern Pennsylvania Organizing Project, Education Law Center, Good Schools Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Citizens for Children & Youth, Philadelphia Education Fund, Philadelphia Student Union, and Youth United for Change.
