Marketing & Special Projects Internship: Fall 2012- Spring 2013
The Organization
Entrepreneur Works is a non-profit 501(c)(3) microenterprise development organization focused on growing businesses and jobs in our local communities. Our mission is to cultivate and promote successful entrepreneurs in underserved areas of the Greater Philadelphia region – entrepreneurs who then become economic engines in their own neighborhoods. By connecting hundreds of entrepreneurs each year with access to capital, one-on-one technical assistance, business training and networking opportunities, Entrepreneur Works helps promising individuals to develop economic self-sufficiency and create job opportunities through business ownership.

Position Summary
The Marketing & Special Projects Intern will work closely with the Executive Director and Marketing and Resource Development staff to: 1) strengthen our marketing and communications efforts overall and 2) assist with a variety of special projects, including the planning of our annual Taste of Success fundraising event, other press events, and our annual appeal campaign, among others.
Marketing
The intern will assist with marketing, writing and editing, and public relations tasks to help Entrepreneur Works increase visibility, awareness, and support for the organization. These tasks will include: working with staff to write and compile information for our e-newsletter; maintaining and updating the organization’s website with events, classes, workshops, client stories, and more; creating and/or updating promotional flyers; and drafting press releases. The intern may also participate in our ongoing efforts to expand our social media presence via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and an organizational blog.
Special Projects
The intern will also work with staff to plan our annual Taste of Success fundraising event, in which our food industry clients compete in a cook-off/bake-off contest decided by celebrity guest judges. The intern will also assist in planning press events and with our annual appeal campaign.
We are looking for an intern to work approximately 10 hours per week across the full academic year (October 2012 – May 2013). Exact start and end dates are negotiable. The intern must be available to work at our Philadelphia office (111 S. Independence Mall East, Suite 810) during regular office hours.
Compensation & Other Benefits
This is an unpaid internship opportunity. Students seeking an internship for course credit are particularly encouraged to apply.
The intern will also have the chance to gain experience and build skills in: writing and packaging marketing materials to promote a local nonprofit; event planning; fundraising and philanthropy; and the ins and outs of working for a small, community-oriented nonprofit organization, particularly one that serves traditionally underserved entrepreneurs.
Appropriate Areas of Study
Those studying English, Social Sciences, Marketing, Communications, Non-Profit Management and Community Development are especially encouraged to apply, but the position is open to students of any major with strong writing skills and a strong interest in microfinance and/or social entrepreneurship.
Software & Technology Used for Position
– Microsoft Office Suite
– Ability to learn and navigate Drupal content management system (similar to WordPress)
– Vertical Response (email distribution service)
– Adobe Creative Suite 5.0 (particularly InDesign)
Skills and Attributes
– Superb written communication skills
– Excellent verbal communications skills
– Experience in marketing and event planning
– Interest in microfinance and entrepreneurship development
– Interest and ability in working with diverse and underserved populations
– Proficiency with web-based media, including social networking applications (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), contact management software and email distribution systems
– Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
