Nominations Invited for 2010 Mario Savio Young Activist Award
Deadline: June 30, 2010
The board of directors of the Mario Savio Memorial Lecture & Young Activist Award invites nominations for the thirteenth annual Young Activist Award, which carries a cash prize of $6,000, to be divided equally between the prize-winner and his or her organization. The winner also will attend an award ceremony in Berkeley, California (October-November; expenses paid).
Housed at the Tides Foundation, the Savio Young Activist Award is presented annually to a young person (or persons) between the ages of 16 and 26 who has a deep commitment to human rights and social justice and a proven ability to transform this commitment into effective action. Nominees should have demonstrated leadership ability, creativity, and integrity, and be engaged in activism for social change, promoting the values of peace, human rights, economic or social justice, or freedom of expression. Preference will be given to candidates who have not yet been widely recognized and who do not have personal privilege or a strong institutional base of support. This year, preference also will be given to activism for economic justice, broadly interpreted.
Nomination instructions and forms are available at the Savio Award Web site.
