MANAGING DIRECTOR
ECONOMY LEAGUE OF GREATER PHILADELPHIA

POSITION SUMMARY
The Managing Director plays a pivotal role in directing the internal operations and stakeholder relationships, enabling the Executive Director and Deputy Director to focus on external policy and strategic growth opportunities. This position involves developing and executing the organization’s fundraising and membership plans, developing and coordinating external media and communications strategy, managing the interface with the Board of Directors and Board committees, and internal operational management and administrative coordination. S/he will also coordinate internal communications and professional development.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Executive Director
Works closely with: Deputy Director and Board of Directors
Manages: Office Manager, Operations and Initiatives Associate, Communications Director, and Technology Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and executes the funding strategy to support the major initiatives e.g., World Class Greater Philadelphia, Greater Philadelphia Leadership Exchange; Strategizes and manages the organization-level strategic media, communications and marketing initiatives; Serves as the primary point of contact between Board Members and the day-to-day operations, including supporting recruitment of additional Board Members, and supporting Board management and strategic advisory committees, as well as supporting the work of the agenda, resource development, and finance committees; Provides operational leadership through coordination of internal communication, staff meetings and professional development; Promotes and upholds organization-wide standards for performance, professionalism, quality of service, effective communication, and collaboration; Directs team performance, annual goals and work plans; Provides day-to-day oversight of the finances and office administration; Manages all human resources and professional development activities; Monitors the organization’s formal implementation of goals and success metrics.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: Preferred Qualifications
Key Criteria:
A minimum of 7 -10 years in relevant management roles of consulting, government service, community development, or similar profit or nonprofit organization.
Project management experience, including supervising a team with diverse functions.
Experience interfacing with business and corporate leaders; demonstrated experience in relationship building and fundraising.
Knowledge of finance, marketing, human resources and communications.
Strong presentation and written skills; effective interpersonal and team building skills.
Demonstrated ability to promote inter-disciplinary collaboration, and maximize effectiveness of professional staff.
Strategic, smart executive with excellent judgment who will take initiative and drive results.
Bachelors’ degree required; advanced degree is preferred.
