Manager of Education Programs

Founded in 1916 as a chartered unit of the American National Red Cross, the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement. The Chapter provides relief to the men, women, and children of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. For more than nine decades, beyond disaster and blood services, the Chapter has specialized in working with children and youth to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to choose healthy lifestyles, prevent injury and danger, and grow into productive, contributing members of their communities.

The Chapter?s Community Education Department educates young people through presentations on disaster preparedness and basic safety at schools, churches, recreation centers and other venues, and through an after-school program called Red Cross Clubs, where high schools students develop knowledge and skills in life-saving trainings and serve their communities. Enhancing ways to educate today?s youth in how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies is a strategic focus of the Community Education Department.

As such, the Red Cross is seeking a Manager of Education Programs (full-time position) to be responsible for developing, directing, and executing a wide range of informal and formal educational programs and managing staff and volunteers. The Manager, reporting to the Director of Community Education, will play a key leadership role to ensure the delivery of both qualitative and quantitative goals for Red Cross trainings and effective management, including budget planning and monitoring and revenue development.

Key responsibilities:

? Develop educational content and hands-on programs for school groups (K-12) and the general public, focused on Community Disaster Education and Preparedness, Youth Safety, International Humanitarian Law, and other needed areas. Adapt existing Red Cross youth programs as appropriate.
? Create/update teaching materials to support work at schools, after-school and community programs.
? Produce materials for website.
? Conduct outreach and arrange trainings at schools, community agencies, and other organizations.
? Supervise and train staff and volunteers involved in development and delivery of educational programs.
? Analyze and assess the program through observations and formal evaluations with participants and staff.
? Assist in teaching when necessary for all department programs.

Qualifications and Experience: College degree (Master?s Degree preferred) in education or related field and minimum three years experience as educator and/or designing, developing, and implementing instructional curricula. Must have demonstrated success in developing hands-on, engaging educational programs for school-age audiences, including revenue-generating programs. Keeps up-to-date on current work-related topics, apply new knowledge to the job, and has a sound knowledge of educational theory and practice in formal and non-formal educational settings.

Experience managing and training staff and volunteers. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style.
