Background

Founded in 1972, PEC is a comprehensive homeless services provider and experienced nonprofit community development agency based in West Philadelphia. The agency employs nearly 100 staff to serve its community and constituents through social services, counseling, case management, commercial corridor revitalization, community organizing, and quality affordable rental housing. PEC is looking for dynamic, motivated, and talented individuals to join its team and help lay the foundation for the agency’s next phase of growth.

Summary:

The Manager, Marketing and Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of the strategic direction of PEC’s Community Development Corporation’s (CDC) efforts to increase the overall visibility of the neighborhoods the CDC serves, and to elevate its community development services. The Manager will be the strategist for maintaining, developing and implementing creative methods for promoting a strong public image for the neighborhood.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications and Public Relations Planning, Execution and Oversight

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, creative and strategic marketing, branding and communication plan for the CDC to support its neighborhood plan, programmatic and neighborhood promotion goals.
  • In conjunction with CDC staff, and senior leadership team, determine strategies for enhancing the knowledge of PEC’s surrounding neighborhoods, programs and services, as well as sustaining the public perception of PEC as a quality, cutting-edge organization.
  • Work with CDC staff and coordinate with development staff to develop a communications plan that addresses needs. Identify other successful methods for both internal and external communications strategies.
  • Work with Development department to promote CDC’s communications and public relations agenda, and create positive coverage to enhance our image.
  • Coordinate CDC/neighborhood branding and brand awareness in partnership with other senior staff. Work with Development department to ensure consistent use of messages and graphic identity across the organization.
  • Demonstrate a keen awareness of the nuances of CDC and PEC’s programs and lines of business and be able to communicate clearly and effectively to multiple and diverse constituencies and stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to support organization initiatives and develop communications materials and programs that promote and publicize them.
  • Oversee printing, graphic design, print production and all forms of external facing messaging and materials for CDC events and programs.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the CDC newsletter, social media outreach through CDC’s Lancaster Avenue Facebook page, Make Your Mark blog as well as LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube. Work with Vice President, CDC staff and various department directors to ensure communications goals are coordinated and met.
  • Write and prepare biweekly e-newsletters and a quarterly newsletter that publicizes the work of the organization and advertises the events and services of other groups in the area.
  • Recruit and engage volunteers, as needed, including committee members, for successful completion of communication and public relations tasks.
  • Develop a budget for annual communications goals and meet budget requirements.
  • Build relationships with various community groups to facilitate communication.
  • Help support special projects and ongoing strategies.

Event Planning, Execution and Oversight

  • Coordinate public event presence and outreach to the community. Assess current CDC events and activities, determine their impact, and develop an Events Plan and calendar that compliment funding, communications, programming, and public relations goals.
  • Perform outreach and broaden participation in CDC’s programs and events.
  • Effectively plan and manage events to create positive results and enhance the image of the neighborhoods CDC serves, Lancaster Avenue, and CDC’s work.
