The Role
Teach For America – Delaware (TFA DE) is seeking a Manager of Development and Communication who will actively and creatively design, manage, and execute the Region’s public relations, internal communications, and revenue. The Manager will work very closely with the Executive Director specifically, but also with the program team, corps members and alumni to develop a dynamic narrative of the work Teach For America is doing in Delaware.

The ideal candidate is an excellent and creative communicator, relationship-builder and goal-oriented project manager who takes initiative, is attentive to details, and acts with purpose and urgency.

The Team
Launched in 2011, TFA Delaware is pushing ahead with a bold leadership plan for corps members and alumni that reflects the needs of our state. We are a small, fun, closely knit staff who value team. We work hand in hand with our school partners, the Department of Education, and community leaders to cultivate, develop, and retain excellence.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management (65%)

  • Establish development goals, establish measures of success, craft strategies, and determine key tactics to ensure that the region meets annual and long-term fundraising goals
  • Conduct research and analysis on the local fundraising landscape to inform development goals and strategies
  • Analyze the interests of donors and prospects to develop compelling pitches, fundraising campaigns, engagement strategies, and stewardship activities
  • Plan and execute excellent donor interactions and communications (e.g. events, newsletters, grants, pitch decks, marketing materials, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain strong operations (e.g. donor-tracking systems, data management, gift processing, donor acknowledgements, etc.), using our constituent database system where appropriate
  • Prioritize key actions for the Executive Director to take in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors through external meetings, events, correspondence, etc.
  • Work across the team to collaborate and support programmatic events and projects and gather stories and information to share with our donors and prospects
  • Prepare, write, and submit grants and related materials and maintain a tracking system for required proposal materials, grant reports, grant requirements, and due dates
  • Regional advisory board execution support

Public Relations/Communications (25%)

  • Establish regional communications vision
  • Plan and execute communications related logistics
  • Own relationship with local press and actively pursues earned media opportunities
  • Manage social media and regional microsite
  • Support Executive Director in legislative affairs work

Americorps Management (10%)

  • Coordinate with the National AmeriCorps team
  • Liaise with the local AmeriCorps Commission and attend all program director meetings
  • Maintain grant requirements: progress reports, drawdowns, and other required paperwork
  • Collaborate with the National AmeriCorps team to draft continuation and renewal grants

Requirements

  • Prior Experience
  • Connection to and love of Delaware
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Pardot are preferred
  • Work Demands
  • Willing and able to work some mornings, evenings or weekends when that furthers team or regional goals

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years’ development or communications experience required
