Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant Program Accepting Applications for Spring 2009 Grant Cycle
Deadline: February 15, 2009

Funded by the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (http://lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pg&p=AboutLowes/Community), the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant program supports parent groups in the United States working to improve their children’s schools across the nation.

Any nonprofit school or parent group associated with a nonprofit public K-12 school is eligible to apply. Parent groups must provide an independent tax ID number as proof of official 501(c)(3) status; groups without nonprofit status should apply through their associated schools. Applicant schools must be more than two years old. Pre-schools are not eligible at this time.

Priority is given to projects that promise permanent impact, such as facility enhancement (both indoor and outdoor) as well as landscaping/cleanup work, and to projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit. Grants cannot be used to pay for memorials, stipends, salaries, artists in residence, field trips, scholarships, or third-party funding.  Only 10 percent of any award granted can be used for external expenses  such as labor, installation, consultation, and delivery.

The requested grant amount must be between $2,000 and $5,000 per applicant. The program will contribute a total of $5 million to schools and school parent teacher groups across the country.

The deadline for submitting applications for this grant cycle is February 13, 2009. However, if fifteen hundred applications are received before the application deadline, then the application process will close.

Visit the Toolbox for Education Web site for complete program information.
