Local Food Operations Fellow, Common Market Philadelphia
Posted on: March 13, 2014

The Opportunity: Common Market Philadelphia is looking for an energetic, organized self-starter seeking to launch his or her career in local food systems. The Local Food Operations Fellowship is a two-year paid position in which the fellow plays a critical role in local food hub operations, learns what it really takes to move food from farms to tables, and builds a professional network through Common Market’s extensive contacts in our region and around the country. The Local Food Operations Fellow will be afforded a high level of trust, responsibility and autonomy in the position and will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the regional food system.

Background: Common Market is a values-based distributor of local food from sustainable family farms. Our mission is to strengthen regional farms while making the local bounty accessible to communities and the institutions that serve them. Founded in 2008, we are a fast growing start-up with an entrepreneurial culture and a high-performing staff. In February 2013, Common Market moved into a new, larger facility in Northeast Philadelphia, allowing us to serve more customers and farmers. It is an exciting time to be a part of Common Market and the fellowship will be essential to Common Market’s continued growth. Learn more about us here: http://www.commonmarketphila.org and follow us on Twitter or Instagram @CommonMkt.

The Position: The Fellow works with Common Market’s Procurement, Sales, Operations, Warehouse, and Trucking teams to assure customers receive accurate, timely orders of farm-fresh, local food. The daily tasks and overall scope of the Fellowship depend on the quickly-evolving needs of the organization and the Fellow’s professional development interests, talents, and previous experience. This is a dynamic Fellowship, where the scope of work can change as the Fellow becomes more adept, informed, and invested in specific areas of the business. The Fellow will work with core Common Market staff to refine and execute the Fellowship outcomes.
