Literary Arts Fund invites applications from literary arts nonprofits
The Literary Arts Fund was established in 2025 by a coalition of seven charitable foundations to dramatically increase funding for, and the visibility of, the nonprofit literary arts field—toward ensuring a healthy and more robust U.S. literary culture in support of creative writers.
Over the next five years, the fund will award at least $50 million in grants to the nonprofit literary arts field, concluding in 2031. Literary arts nonprofits based in the United States with a primary mission to present, publish, and/or otherwise support contemporary creative writers of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or hybrid literary forms are invited to apply.
The fund invites applications for its general operating grants, which will provide unrestricted funding in support of the mission, activities, and administrative needs of literary arts nonprofits. These grants will be disbursed to nonprofits in a single payment and intended for use over a five-year period. Literary arts nonprofits applying for a general operating grant need not request an amount, awards will range from $37,500 to $500,000 and may be based on the nonprofit’s annual operating budget.
Literary arts nonprofits (including fiscally sponsored literary arts organizations and publishers) based in the U.S. that directly serve creative writers, including organizations that present, publish, and/or otherwise support creative writers’ artistic work, are eligible to apply. Organizations and publishers must have a 501(c)(3) designation granted by the IRS or be fiscally sponsored by those with the same designation.
An information session on the grants program will be held on November 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. PT. Literary arts nonprofits applying for a general operating grant must complete an eligibility quiz and submit an application form via Submittable by December 19, 2025.
For complete program guidelines, application instructions, and to register for the information session, see the Literary Arts Fund website.
Deadline: December 19, 2025
