Lincoln Financial Group Invites Submissions for 2014 Lincoln’s Legacy Award

Lincoln Financial Group is inviting submissions for the Lincoln’s Legacy Award, an annual award that recognizes nonprofit organizations whose principles and programs advance Abraham Lincoln’s legacy of freedom and opportunity through education.

A $50,000 grant will be awarded to a nonprofit organization that has increased high school graduation rates and college preparedness through mentoring, tutoring, technology training, and/or college readiness programs. Ten applicants will be selected as finalists and advance to the public voting stage of the competition, during which individuals who are 13 years or older will be invited to cast their votes on Facebook or the Lincoln Legacy Web site. Finalists will have the opportunity to submit content for voters to review, including their mission statement, a donation link for the nonprofit of their choice, a video, and up to five pictures.

To be eligible, applicants must be recognized as public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, have annual operating expenses of at least $750,000, and cannot be located in cities served by the Lincoln Financial Foundation (i.e., Concord, New Hampshire; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Greensboro, North Carolina; Hartford, Connecticut; Omaha, Nebraska; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).

For complete program guidelines, application instructions, and information about last year’s winner, visit the Lincoln Legacy Web site.
