Lights On Afterschool
Posted by on September 12, 2003
As schools open their doors for the new year, thousands of afterschool programs across the country are gearing up for the fourth annual Lights On Afterschool! on October 9, 2003. This event is the nation’s only celebration of afterschool programs.
In the face of tougher economic times and budget cuts at every level, it is critical to bring attention to afterschool programs and the important role they play in keeping kids safe, helping working families and improving academic achievement. Participating in Lights On Afterschool! can make a difference. Sign up today at http://www.afterschoolalliance.org/loa_2003/index.cfm to host an event. While you’re there, check out some of our brand new features, including our Event Planning Kit and What’s in the Works, a section that highlights what local groups are planning for this year.
Keeping the lights on during the hours after school is critical not only for children and working families, but also for communities. Lights On Afterschool! is a chance to shine the light on afterschool programs and call attention to the need for more afterschool resources in America.
