Stonewall Community Foundation Issues RFP for LGBTQ Safe Spaces
The Stonewall Community Foundation has issued a Request for Proposals for its 2016 Quarter Share Grant Cycle.
Coordinated by the foundation, Stonewall Quarter Share is a network of young donors who, through organized philanthropy and volunteer service, support LGBTQ causes in New York City. Each year, SQS members award one or more grants to advance programming and services that directly benefit LGBTQ New Yorkers.
This fall, a one-year general operating support grant of $12,500 will be awarded to an organization or project focused on the safety of marginalized LGBTQ communities. Stonewall seeks applications from organizations and projects focused on access to safe spaces, whether physical or metaphorical, for those who are most marginalized and for whom safety is most elusive within New York City’s LGBTQ community. To that end, the foundation encourages proposals from organizations whose work addresses issues related but not limited to the creation, expansion, or sustaining of safe spaces, particularly for people of color and transgender non-conforming populations.
Preference will be given to organizations that serve residents of New York City’s outer boroughs. Priority will be given to organizations that bring the marginalized communities they serve into leadership roles within the organization.
To be eligible, applicant organizations (or sponsored projects) must explicitly serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people; have total operating expenses that will not exceed $750,000 in the current fiscal year; have a primary focus on the five boroughs of New York City or neighborhoods therein; and have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Grants may be awarded to non-LGBTQ organizations, provided that their current operating budget is under $750,000 and that the grant funds are directed to a project or program exclusively or predominantly affecting LGBTQ people.
The foundation will be hosting an informational conference call on July 25 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
See the Stonewall Community Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
DEADLINE: AUGUST 24, 2016
