JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will support efforts to advance recognition of same-sex couples in Pennsylvania. This is a full-time temporary position (six months from the date of hire) with a strong possibility of extension to a long-term position. The position will be based in Philadelphia, although travel around the state will be required.

The LGBT Field Organizer will work under the supervision of the Associate Director and will be responsible for directing the ACLU of Pennsylvania’s public education campaign for statewide recognition of same-sex relationships by:

• Creating and maintaining a coalition of organizations from around the state;
• Recruiting and training volunteers;
• Implementing public education activities around the state;
• Speaking publicly on the issue;
• Outreach to business, faith, and community leaders;
• Collecting stories of couples impacted by the lack of recognition for their relationships;
• Creating fact sheets, content for website, and other public education materials;
• Assisting with creating and implementing a media strategy on the issue; and
• Performing administrative tasks related to the position, such as maintaining a database of relevant contacts.
