Seminar on legal framework of fundraising set
Philadelphia LawWorks, Pfizer, and DLA Piper LLP will co-sponsor a free seminar on the legal framework of traditional and nontraditional fundraising on Friday, November 5th from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
The seminar will focus on the legal and regulatory issues involved as nonprofits look for new ways to fundraise. The decision on how much to charge for certain goods and services, as well as general ideas for other methods of generating revenue, often come up as nonprofits grow, especially during more difficult economic times.
Topics covered include how to make sure charging fees is consistent with your tax-exempt status and local law, how to raise funds while avoiding unrelated business taxable income, including how to take advantage of IRS rules regarding thrift shops and volunteers raising funds, understanding the rules for special events, as well as how to use the Internet and other new technologies to raise funds in untraditional ways.
The seminar is designed for executive directors, chief financial and administrative officers, directors of development and anyone involved in fundraising and will take place at DLA Piper LLP, 1650 Market Street, Suite 4900 in Center City, Philadelphia.
Advance registration is required by emailing registerphilly@dlapiper.com. Lunch will be provided.
