Leadership & Sustainability Institute Seeks Nominations for 2013-2014 Black Male Achievement Social Innovation Accelerator
Posted by on March 13, 2013
The Leadership & Sustainability Institute for Black Male Achievement is accepting nominations for the 2013-2014 Black Male Achievement Social Innovation Accelerator to support leaders who have shown tangible results in improving the life outcomes of black men and boys. The program provides an opportunity for organizations with demonstrable outcomes to receive capacity-building support, forge connections with funders, and have the opportunity to become national leaders in the field of black male achievement.
The program will select five BMA Social Innovators who are working in the following target impact areas: educational equity (afterschool programs, professional development for educators, third-grade reading initiatives, school discipline policy, etc.); work opportunities (vocation-specific education, school-to-work initiatives, incarceration and recidivism reduction, etc.); strengthening family (father-training programs, mentoring, balanced child support policies, etc.); and positive messages (media and social marketing awareness campaigns, etc.).
BMA Social Innovators will receive capacity-building and coaching services valued at more than $150,000 over a period of twelve months, including leadership and organizational capacity assessment, fundraising consulting and training, ongoing one-on-one support to assess organizational needs, and a $10,000 stipend for travel and related expenses. They will also be presented to funders and leaders at the BMA Social Innovator Showcase event in spring 2014, receive facilitated connections to individual funders, and become part of LSI’s national network.
The BMA Accelerator is open to programs and organizations that are LSI members and public entities, nonprofit organizations, or for-profit organizations (or programs/initiatives within the above). Qualified organizations must have an annual operating budget of at least $1 million, have been in operation for at least five years, and have a presence and/or impact in at least one of nine target cities (Baltimore, MD; Detroit, MI; Fresno, CA; Jackson, MS; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; Oakland, CA; Philadelphia, PA; or Pittsburgh, PA).
