Leadership is Not a Deliverable

Leadership is Not a Deliverable – just published in Social Policy – see

Brian Johns and Ellen Ryan have written this piece to argue for continued and increased deep grassroots community organizing. Unfortunately, too many funding sources have either reduced or eliminated resources for the long-term work of building organizations and developing leaders who can organize to make meaningful change. They argue that leadership development cannot be done effectively in the increasing deliverable-based model of funding community organizing.
Please read their piece, pass it around, and let them know what you think! They really hope to have a conversation about what works well and how we can continue to organize groups that are multi-issue and in
it for the long haul to build power.
